Student Competitions

One of the goals of the Conference is to provide opportunities for students to showcase their projects and skills. To encourage this, we host a number of student-centered competitions before and during the Conference.

Who Can Enter?

All current EAST students, not just those attending Conference. Anyone from your school can accept an award on their behalf.

Benefits of Competing

Not only is it exciting to win and receive cool prizes, but students also gain experience and recognition from their peers. In addition:

  • Entering and/or winning a competition looks good on a resumé.
  • Participating in competitions can garner administration support and funding.
  • Competitions provide a positive challenge.
  • Competitions increase experience, self-confidence and growth.
  • Competition deadlines help students develop organization skills and provide “real-world” experience.

Available Competitions

See links at left for more information on this year’s competitions. The following are in order of entry deadline:

Poster Competition

The Poster Competition is a challenge to convey complex concepts on a single “page”. Posters are categorized into Project Posters or General EAST Posters. Finalist posters will be displayed in exhibit hall and winners announced at the Opening Plenary on Tuesday, March 1. Submission deadline January 12.

TIP: Posters can provide great wall decorations for your classroom and finalists’ entries are displayed at the EAST Training Center.

Application Showcase Competitions

Application Showcase Competitions are sponsored by industry professionals and other organizations, and provide students an opportunity to showcase special and ongoing projects as well as technology skills. Many competition hosts have used student projects in their marketing and promotional efforts and have recruited students for internships, based on their competition entries. Finalists may be announced prior to the Conference and asked to present their projects to judges on Tuesday, March 1. Winners will be announced during the Opening Plenary on Tuesday, March 1. Submission deadline January 19.

Student-Created Music Competition

A variety of student-created music will be featured during the Opening Plenary and Banquet. Multiple selections will be chosen and all creators/composers recognized. Submission deadline January 26.
